Every Christmas we all want to buy the best toy for our children. Sometimes it can be hard to find what that might be because we are so bombarded with adverts from TV and other media.
As an adult we often realise that the adverts on TV are not showing us how the toy really works, it does not tell us how long it will take it out of the packaging or how long it will take us to put together. This is where it is always best to check out as many reviews as you can and try to get some real information from people who have actually bought the toy or gift you are considering.
Another thing to consider is what the industry is saying. They are the best at trying to figure out what the latest craze, or top selling toy is going to be. So realistically if you follow their advice you should end up with a good choice, and a popular toy.
Also listen to what your child actually wants. This will give you a fantastic idea of what they are in to, and, more importantly, what they are not. For example, a lot of girls like things pink and fluffy, but there are some that hate that sort of thing. Maybe they would prefer something educational or a camera to take their own pictures.
Start making a list of things that they mention early on in the year. This can be important because when Christmas comes around, some things get forgotten. There is nothing worse than hearing ” I thought you were going to get me ….. for Christmas” on Christmas morning. So think ahead, and write them down.
Also think about what other people might like to buy for your child. Grandparents and other family members will always ask. Try to have a list of gifts and toys in different price ranges so you can always give an idea to anyone who asks.
It is also important to think if toys are age appropriate too. Giving a gift that is aimed at a younger child may just end up unused because there is no challenge to it or it is just boring. On the other hand a toy suitable for an older child may leave your child frustrated at not being able to use it on their own.
Hopefully this will give you some idea of what to consider when choosing a great gift for Christmas, or indeed any other time of the year.
